Legendary James Anderson is set for his final appearance in Test cricket as the upcoming home season for England will be the last for cricket’s most successful fast bowler, a report in U.K media said this . The Guardian reported on Friday that Brendon McCullum, England’s Test coach, travelled to the UK from New Zealand earlier this week and told Anderson in person over a round of golf that he intends to look to the future this summer, building towards the 2025-26 Ashes .
James Anderson is the most wicket taker seamer in test cricket
James Anderson is England’s leading wicket-taker and became just the third bowler in history to reach 700 Test wickets in March, after spinners Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. Anderson became the third man to reach 700 Test wickets earlier this year in the final match of England’s tour to India but had a relatively light workload in India, bowling 110 overs across seven innings. He also struggled to make an impact against Australia last summer, taking five wickets at 85.40 across four Tests.
What James Anderson said for upcoming series ?
He said “I’m really excited for the summer. I’m definitely in the best shape I’ve ever been in .
“I’m not getting any worse. I like where my game is at and I still have that enjoyment of turning up every day and trying to get better in the nets.
“My place in the team is not a given, so I’ve got to work hard to prove I’m worth a place in the summer.”
England looking for new seamers
Rob Key, England men’s managing director, said in a newspaper interview earlier this year that he would look to a new generation of seamers to “take us forward” in the coming years following Stuart Broad’s retirement at the end of last summer, citing Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Matt Potts, Gus Atkinson, Matt Fisher, Saqib Mahmood and John Turner.
