She held campaigns to establish a national holiday for mothers after the death of her mother in 1905. She wanted a day when people could express their love and gratitude towards their mother . Further President Woodrow Wilson decided to mark every second Sunday of May to be celebrated as Mother’s Day since 1914. The culture of Mother’s Day was then taken by other countries across the world.
